Donald Glover in all of his multi-hyphenated glory, surprised his fans with the unexpected release of his new album 3.15.20. He first uploaded the album to his website without warning (What up Beyoncé?). Then, he took it down the next day and released it the normal way a week later, with a blank white cover and songs named for their timecodes. I can understand trying to do something “different,” especially if the songs are strong enough for such little packaging. Sadly, that wasn’t the case here.

I don’t know what to make of this album in the whole of it. I can appreciate the “anti-pop superstar” way in which Glover approaches his music career. It’s actually quite refreshing when you look at the schematics of the music industry today and how status and commercialization reign supreme.
