Justin Bieber: Changes Album Review

When you hear the title of Justin Bieber’s new LP “Changes,” don’t you presume that in its context it would have something to do with the music being different? Perhaps it would sound different or somehow deviate from a way of doing things in the past?  Well, the 17-track sonic journey to nowhere presents itself in the opposite fashion.

It’s safe to say that in the five years since his last album, he wasn’t able to cook up a mega-hit like “Sorry” (2015) but it happens to the best of artists. Justin Bieber has an undeniably great voice, but that voice didn’t save this album from its palpable monotony. To put it plainly, it is boring and the lyrical content is subpar at best. Alexa, play “Yummy,” it doesn’t get more elementary than that. I understand that this is an R&B album and JB has done R&B tracks in the past, but something about this felt contrived to me.

I legitimately saved zero of the seventeen songs to my personal playlist and I think that’s saying something because there’s usually something worth going back to – but not this time. Don’t get me wrong, these are not the worst songs ever, they’re just lackluster and skippable. However, if I had to pick just one song as being the best of the album, I would have to say Habitual. That’s all I have for you.
